I Heart QVC

I'll watch almost any home shopping network for a few minutes, but nothing compares to QVC (channel 14 in Seattle). Fake Christmas trees? Check. Stretchy pant coordinates, workout dvd collections, lions head gold jewelry - bring it on. Mostly I watch to admire the hosts ability to make the crappiest item seem desirable. I did buy a collection of windsor pilates dvd's a few months ago. I have picked up the phone to buy jewelry, but never executed. And their web site is great. If I ever gain three hundred pounds and don't want to leave the house, my life will clearly be all about QVC.

Baby vs. Really Cute Purse

Dear reader - I am ten weeks pregnant. I haven't told anyone yet, well, except the baby's daddy. I am very excited and next week I can tell everyone, including my parents who will be grandparents for the first time. So, anyway, I was perusing the Coach web site earlier today just for fun. And to my utter delight, found they carry a Coach baby bag. I want it. It's probably impractical as hell, plus it costs as much as a year's supply of baby food. OK, I have no idea how much baby food really costs, but the bag is $398 and I'm sure that's ridiculous. However this does not stop me from wanting it.

Did hell freeze over and no one tell me?

OK, the shoes are cute, I would buy them. They're from Easy Spirit. Good, they'll be comfortable. But they cost $320! Since when does Easy Spirit sell shoes at this price? Who cares they were designed by Tara Subkoff, from the Imitation of Christ label which makes hideous clothes. I am troubled by this turn of events for several reasons, not the least of which is the possible demise of the 'extremely uncomfortable but gorgeous high heel club.' This was a club that only the most shoe-obsessed women belonged to and I don't like access being opened up by Easy Spirit. (Not that these shoes are gorgeous, cute yes. But at $320 a pop, the designers at ES will soon figure out how to do gorgeous.) In addition, I am barely comfortable shopping at ES, albeit online - never in the actual mall, and much less comfortable paying them this absurd amount of money for cute shoes. But I am powerless against a cute shoe. What next? Will Sears suddenly have desirable handbags? Well, I could go for that. Sears is kinda awesome.

What is Frippery? Or Frock, for that Matter.

Hi and thanks for visiting the Frock and Frippery blog where I get to share my slightly skewed take on fashion. I love clothes, I often find myself wandering around the shoe aisle in a kind of coma or fingering the way too expensive handbags. It's an addiction to nice things and slightly ugly things - a combination I find intoxicating.

So, on that note...frippery: Pretentious, showy finery. And then, frock: A woman's dress. But mostly, these are jsut two clothing-related words that sound fun together.
